Microsoft Shows Off How Touch Controls Will Work on xCloud with a ‘Gears 5’ Demo – TouchArcade

Ever since Project xCloud was revealed, Microsoft has been slowly revealing more about its upcoming cloud gaming service. While a closed beta is ongoing on Android and in a limited capacity on iOS, many people have been looking forward to seeing how Microsoft’s previously announced touch controls will work in games. In a new Microsoft Game Stack video, the team showcased how Gears 5 will control with the new touch controls. The interesting thing to note is that Gears 5 will even support gyro aim controls that aren’t even possible with the Xbox One controller. The interface in Gears 5 shown towards the last third of the video below looks really nicely thought out. I can’t wait to see how more games adapt to using touch controls for those who don’t want to or can’t pair a bluetooth controller to their phone. Watch the Microsoft Game Stack video below:

Microsoft is also hoping that developers build their games keeping in mind that touch controls for xCloud are an input method. As of today, Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is playable with the new touch controls on xCloud. It is going to be interesting to see how the service rolls out once it launches next month for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. It definitely feels like another one of those situations where a big company is dealing with Apple behind the scenes to figure out if and when this will get approved. It took Apple far too long to approve Valve’s Steam Link. Hopefully iOS owners don’t have to wait too long for xCloud.
